Barbara Englesberg

President of the Cooperative

Assistant Concertmaster and founding member of Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Barbara Englesberg has often served as concertmaster since 1978 and soloed in W. Newell Hendricks’ Violin Concerto in 1981. Concertmaster for the Huntington Orchestra, which performs with the Northeastern University Choral Society, Ms. Englesberg was also a member of the Handel & Haydn Society Orchestra for eighteen years, performing in London and throughout the United States, as well as recording. Over the last thirty years she has performed with many other organizations in the New England area, including the Boston Ballet, Cantata Singers, Boston Lyric Opera, Coro Allegro, Boston Baroque, Masterworks Chorale, Emmanuel Church, and the Springfield Symphony. A founding member of the Leonora Quartet in 1993, she also concertizes with the Felice Trio and Duo Anime, with pianist Esther Ning Yau. She made her debut at age 15, playing a movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Pittsburgh Symphony in their Youth Concerts. In addition to performing, Ms. Englesberg maintains a busy teaching schedule, teaching violin and viola at Northeastern University, All-Newton Music School and her Cambridge studio, as well as coaching chamber music. She studied at UC Santa Barbara, Peabody Conservatory, and Boston University, where she completed her doctorate in music performance in 1987. Her major violin teachers were Joseph Silverstein, Joseph Fuchs, Berl Senofsky, Valerie Kuchment, Mihail Stolarevsky, and Ronan Lefkowitz.
